Dola Arohana

Dola Arohana is the ceremony of putting the child in the cradle the very first time. It is performed on 10th, 12th, 16th, 18th or 32nd day from the birth. If it is not performed on above fixed days from birth then an auspicious time can be chosen as described below. Dola Arohana is also known as Jhula Arohana. Doing the ceremony at an appropriate time keeps the child healthy and illness free.

All time intervals are categorized into three

  • Auspicious Muhurat
    Auspicious - very good to perform the activity.

  • Mixed Muhurat

Nakshatra: All fixed Nakshatra i.e. Rohini (4), Uttara Phalguni (12), Uttara Ashadha (21), Uttara Bhadrapada (26), all gentle and friendly Nakshatra i.e. Mrigashira (5), Revati (27), Chitra (14), Anuradha (17) and all short Nakshatra i.e. Hasta (13), Ashwini (1), Pushya (8) are considered auspicious for Dola Arohana.

Tithi: Dwitiya (2), Tritiya (3), Panchami (5), Saptami (7), Dashami (10), Ekadashi (11) of both Shukla and Krishna Paksha are considered auspicious for Dola Arohana. Apart from these Tithi, Shukla Trayodashi, Purnima and Krishna Pratipada are also considered auspicious for Dola Arohana Sanskara.

Days: Except Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday, all other weekdays are considered good for Dola Arohana.

Lagna: All Rashi which are fixed in nature can be chosen as Lagna i.e. Vrishabha (2), Simha (5), Vrishchika (8) and Kumbha (11) are considered good for Dola Arohana.

Dola Chakra: Dola Chakra should also be looked into while choosing an auspicious time for Dola Arohana. Five Nakshatra ahead and seven Nakshatra behind from the Nakshatra occupied by Surya are considered auspicious. Nakshatra of Chandra can be 1st to 27th position from Nakshatra of Surya. The results due to this distance are as following -

  • 1 to 5 - represents East part of the cradle and child remains illness free
  • 6 to 10 - represents South part of the cradle and gives death and illness
  • 11 to 15 - represents West part of the cradle and gives fear and illness
  • 16 to 20 - represents North part of the cradle and gives death and ailments
  • 21 to 27 - represents Center part of the cradle and gives all sorts of comfort
