Vidyarambha

Vidyarambha is a Vedic ritual for starting formal education of the child. It is usually performed after Akshararambha when child is comfortable with alphabets and basic math. Vidyarambha is education which is started with keeping future livelihood of child on mind.

  • Auspicious Muhurat
    Auspicious - very good to perform the activity.
  • Inauspicious - not good to perform the activity.
  • Mixed Muhurat
    Mixed - good intervals but has some dosha due to which it should be used with cautious in case of urgency.

Following considerations should be looked into while choosing an auspicious time for Vidyarambha.

Nakshatra: All fixed Nakshatra i.e. Rohini (4), Uttara Phalguni (12), Uttara Ashadha (21), Uttara Bhadrapada (26), all movable Nakshatra i.e. Swati (15), Punarvasu (7), Shravana (22), Dhanishtha (23), Shatabhisha (24), all gentle and friendly Nakshatra i.e. Mrigashira (5), Revati (27), Chitra (14), Anuradha (17) and all short Nakshatra i.e. Hasta (13), Ashwini (1), Pushya (8) and others i.e. Ashlesha (9), Mula (19), Ardra (6), Purva Phalguni (11), Purva Ashadha (20) and Purva Bhadrapada (25) are auspicious for Vidyarambha.

Tithi: Dwitiya (2), Tritiya (3), Panchami (5), Shashthi (6), Dashami (10), Ekadashi (11), Dwadashi (12) of both Shukla and Krishna Paksha are considered auspicious for Vidyarambha. Tithi during Shukla Paksha are preferred over Krishna Paksha.

Days: Except Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, all other weekdays are considered good for Vidyarambha.

Lagna: All fixed Lagna i.e. Vrishabha (2), Simha (5), Vrishchika (8) and Kumbha (11) should be avoided as those are considered inauspicious for Vidyarambha.

Kundali: 8th House should be empty.

Chandra and Tara Shuddhi: Proper Chandra and Tara Shuddhi for child should be performed. If Budha is transiting favourably for the child, then it is considered very good for Vidyarambha.
