Jatakarma Muhurat

Cutting of Umbilical Cord of Newborn

Jatakarma is an important Sanskara out of 16 Sanskara followed in Hinduism. It is the first Sanskara after the birth of the child. Ideally it should be performed before cutting the naval-chord i.e. before separating the child from the mother. If Jatakarma is performed at such critical moment then it needs no Muhurta. Only when this Sanskara is not performed at the time of cutting the naval-chord i.e. Nabhi Bandhana, Jatakarma Muhurta is required and it is generally performed with Namakarana ceremony.
