As per Vedic Astrology if we divide the zodiac into twenty-seven (27) equal parts then each part would be of 13° 20′ and each part is called a Nakshatra. If we begin from Aries (i.e. beginning position as per Nirayana) then all Nakshatra can be named as per the following list.
These 28 Nakshatra are divided into seven groups. The classification of Nakshatra into seven groups is as following -
Following four Nakshatra are considered fixed in nature.
Fixed Nakshatra category is also known as Dhruva, Sthira and constant. All works which are fixed in nature are done in these Nakshatra e.g. laying the foundation, digging a well, house building, Upanayana, agriculture, starting service etc.
Following five Nakshatra are considered movable in nature.
Movable Nakshatra category is also known as Chara and Chala. All movable activities like riding on vehicles, horses, elephants and journeys can be done in these Nakshatra(s). Apart from these activities, any other work needing motion can be done in these Nakshatra.
Following five Nakshatra are considered cruel in nature.
Cruel Nakshatra category is also known as Ugra and Krura Nakshatra category. All these Nakshatra(s) are aggressive in nature and suitable for killing, cheating, works involving use of fire, theft, poisoning, research on poisonous medicines, purchase or sale and use of arms, surgical operations, obtaining license of a gun etc.
Following two Nakshatra are considered ordinary in nature.
Ordinary Nakshatra category is also known as Mishra, Sadharana and mixed. These Nakshatra are good for fire related works, welding, melting, gas works, fabrications, preparing medicines, Agnihotra, etc.
Following four Nakshatra are considered short in appearance.
Short Nakshatra category is also known as Kshipra, Laghu and dynamic Nakshatra. These Nakshatra are suitable for construction, starting a shop, selling, sex, starting education, making and wearing ornaments, fine arts, learning and display of arts, etc.
All acts done under movable Nakshatra can also be done during short Nakshatra. Pushya Nakshatra is not considered good for marriage ceremony.
Following four Nakshatra are considered gentle in nature.
Gentle Nakshatra category is also known as Mridu, Maitra and friendly. Activities e.g. singing, learning music, making and wearing clothes, playing, learning game skills, making friends, making and wearing ornaments can be done in these Nakshatra.
All activities which can be done during fixed Nakshatra can also be done during gentle Nakshatra.
Following four Nakshatra are considered ferocious in nature.
Ferocious Nakshatra category is also known as Teekshna, Daruna and bitter. These Nakshatra are good for staring Tantrik acts, killing, black magic, aggressive and deadly deeds, to divide others, to train and tame animals and for Sadhana or Hatha Yoga(s).
All activities which can be done during cruel Nakshatra can also be done during ferocious Nakshatra.
