-3223 Lambodara Sankashti Chaturthi

According to the Amanta Hindu calendar, Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Pausha month (Purnimanta Magha month) is celebrated as day of Lambodara Sankashti. On the day of Lambodar Sankashti, a fast is observed for Lord Ganesha and His Lambodara form is worshipped. For the completion of the fast, Shodashopachara Puja of Lord Ganesha is also done on this day. By observing this fast with full rituals and devotion, all the obstacles in life are mitigated.

Lambodara is one of the various forms of Lord Ganesha. According to Mudgala Purana, Lord Lambodara is described as situated in Brahmajnana, the knower of gross and subtle elements. The literal meaning of Lambodara is 'One with a long or huge stomach', but in Mudgala Purana the meaning of Lambodara is given as 'One who holds the universe in His stomach'. The Lambodara form of Lord Ganesha represents knowledge, patience and tolerance. Therefore, worshipping this form of Ganesha increases patience and tolerance and leads to the attainment of knowledge.

In the North Indian states, Lambodara Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated as Sakat Chauth. On the day of Sakat Chauth, Goddess Sakat Mata is worshipped and on this day women observe a fast with the wish for the well-being of their sons.
