Tambula Bhakshana is ritual of offering the very first betel leaf i.e. Paan leaf to the child. This ceremony is usually performed when the child is 2 and half months old. Mostly it is getting done along with Annaprashana. In modern times, it looks inappropriate to offer Paan to a child. Hence, instead of Paan, fresh fruits can be offered to the child at the time of Tambula Bhakshana ceremony. Following considerations should be looked into while choosing an auspicious time for Tambula Bhakshana.

Hours which are past midnight are suffixed with next day date. In Panchang day starts and ends with sunrise.
Nakshatra: All fixed Nakshatra i.e. Rohini (4), Uttara Phalguni (12), Uttara Ashadha (21), Uttara Bhadrapada (26), movable Nakshatra i.e. Swati (15), Punarvasu (7), Shravana (22), Dhanishtha (23), all gentle and friendly Nakshatra i.e. Mrigashirsha (5), Revati (27), Chitra (14), Anuradha (17) and all short Nakshatra i.e. Hasta (13), Ashwini (1), Pushya (8) and others i.e. Jyeshtha (18), Mula (19) are auspicious for Tambula Bhakshana.
Tithi: Discard all Rikta Tithi, Shashthi, Ashtami, Dwadashi, Shukla Pratipada, Krishna Trayodashi and Amavasya. Rest Tithi after discarding mentioned one are considered auspicious for Tambula Bhakshana.
Days: Except Tuesday and Saturday, all other weekdays are considered good for Tambula Bhakshana.
Lagna: Vrishabha (2), Mithuna (3), Kanya (6), Makara (10), Kumbha (11) and Meena (12) are considered auspicious for Tambula Bhakshana.
