Gangaur Vrat Katha

Gangaur Vrat Katha

Once upon a time, on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, Goddess Parvati took permission from Lord Shiva and went to the river to take bath. After taking bath, Parvati ji made a Parthiva Shivalinga from sand and worshiped it with all the rituals. During the worship, Goddess Parvati offered only the things made of sand and accepted the Prasad of two particles of the same. At last the puja was completed by doing Pradakshina etc.

Pleased with the devotional worship of Goddess Parvati, Lord Bholenath appeared in that earthly Shivalinga and gave a boon to Mother Parvati and said, "On this day, whoever woman worships me and observes your fast, her husband will be long-lived and will live a happy life and will attain Moksha in the end." After granting this boon to Mother Parvati, Lord Shiva disappeared from there.

Goddess Parvati got very late in returning after completing the worship of the Parthiva Shivalinga. Parvati ji returned from the river and came before Lord Shiva, Devarshi Narada ji was also present there. Lord Shiva asked Goddess Parvati the reason for her late arrival. On asking Lord Shiva's question, Mother Parvati said, "I found my brothers, sister-in-law and other relatives on the banks of the river. They started insisting on me to eat milk and rice and take rest. I accepted their request and that’s why I am coming late."

Lord Shiva says while doing Leela, "I also want to eat milk and rice." And Lord Shiva moved towards the river bank. Mother Parvati started praying to Lord Shiva in her mind, "O Bholenath! If I am devoted to you, then please save my honor at this time, O Lord! Protect my words, Lord!"

Mata Parvati, entangled in this conflict in her mind, was walking behind Lord Shiva when she saw a grand and huge palace on the banks of the river. On entering the palace, Goddess Parvati's brothers and sister-in-laws along with their entire family were present there. All of them welcomed Lord Shiva grandly and started praising him in various ways. Pleased with their hospitality, Lord Shiva resided in that palace for two days. Then on the third day, Mata Parvati started requesting Lord Shiva to depart. But Lord Shiva wanted to reside in that palace for more time. Therefore, Goddess Parvati left from there alone. Finally, Shiva ji along with Devarshi Naradaa followed Parvati ji.

While walking, when he came very far, Lord Shiva suddenly remembered that he had forgotten his garland at Parvati Ji's in-laws house. Hearing this, Goddess Parvati immediately started going to get the garland, but Lord Shiva stopped her and ordered Devarshi Narada ji to bring the garland. After reaching the bank of the river, Narada ji saw that there was no palace there. Rather, there is a dense forest at that place, in which various types of predatory animals etc. are roaming. Seeing this gruesome scene, Devarshi Narada was astonished and started wondering whether he had come to some other place. But due to the Leela of Lord Shiva, a terrible lightning flashed at that place, due to which Narada saw Lord Shiva's garland hanging on a tree. Devarshi appeared before Lord Shiva with that garland and surprisingly narrated the entire story to Lord Shiva.

Devarshi Narada said to Lord Shiva, "O Bholenath! What kind of strange Leela is this of yours? At that place there is neither that grand palace nor the relatives of Mother Parvati. Rather that place has turned into a dense forest full of violent animals. It is done. Oh Leeladhar! Please remove my confusion."

Seeing Narada ji in a surprised state, Lord Shiva smiled softly and said, "O Devarshi! This is not my work, this is the illusive Leela of Goddess Parvati, which has taken you by surprise. Goddess Parvati is worshiping her Parthiva Shivalinga. She wanted to keep it confidential, that's why she hid the truth."

Hearing the words of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati said, "O Lord! What am I worthy of? This is the result of your kindness only.

Seeing the Leela of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Devarshi Narada said, "O Mother! Mother of the world! You are the supreme among the devotees of the husband. This Leela has been completed only due to the influence of your vow to the husband. The worldly women get eternal good fortune just by remembering you." All accomplishments arise from you and merge into you. Therefore, for you, this Leela creation is only a momentary task. O Mother! Secret worship is more fruitful and effective than ordinary worship.

Therefore, I give this blessing that whoever women secretly worship their husband and pray for their well being, they will get long life and good husband and children by the grace of Lord Shiva.
