First of all, as per family tradition, light a big mustard oil lamp in the middle of the revered ancestors and family deity, village-city deities and decorate it by placing 11, 21, 51 or more small lamps around it in a platter (big plate). Then meditate on 'Deep-Deva'.
Puja should begin with the meditation of Deep-Deva. Following Mantra should be chanted while meditating on Deep-Deva.
भो दीप! ब्रह्मरूपस्त्वं ह्यन्धकार-विनाशकः।
गृहाण मया कृतां पूजाम् ओजस्तेजः प्रवर्धय॥
Bho Dipa! Brahma-Rupastvam Hyandhakara-Vinashakah!
Grihana Maya Kritam Pujam Ojastejah Pravardhaya॥
मन्त्रार्थ - हे दीप! आप अन्धकार का नाश करने वाले ब्रह्म-स्वरूप हैं। मेरे द्वारा की गयी पूजा को ग्रहण करें तथा ओज तथा तेज की वृद्धि करें।
Mantra Translation - O Deep-Deva! You are the form of Brahma who destroys darkness. Please accept my prayers and increase my energy and brightness.
After Dhyanam of Deep-Deva, following Mantra should be chanted while worshipping Deep-Deva and take three flowers in Anjali (by joining palm of both hands) and leave them in front or near Deepak.
ॐ दीप-वृक्षाय नमः।
Om Dipa-Vrikshaya Namah।
मन्त्रार्थ - दीप-वृक्ष को नमस्कार है।
Mantra Translation - My salutations to Deep-Vriksha.
After worshipping Deep-Deva, greet Deep-Malika while praying with following Mantra.
शुभं करोतु कल्याणमारोग्यं सुख-सम्पदम्।
मम बुद्धि-प्रकाशं च दीप-ज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥
शुभं भवतु कल्याणमारोग्यं पुष्टि-वर्धनम्।
आत्म-तत्त्व-प्रबोधाय दीप-ज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥
दीपावलिर्मया दत्ता गृहाण त्वं सुरेश्वरि!
अनेन दीप-दानेन ज्ञान-दृष्टि-प्रदा भव॥
Shubham Karotu Kalyanamarogyam Sukha-Sampadam।
Mama Buddhi-Prakasham Cha Dipa-Jyotirnamoastu Te॥
Shubham Bhavatu Kalyanamarogyam Pushti-Vardhanam।
Atma-Tattva-Prabodhaya Dipa-Jyotirnamoastu Te॥
Dipavalirmaya Datta Grihana Tvam Sureshwari!
Anena Dipa-Danena Jnana-Drishti-Prada Bhava॥
मन्त्रार्थ - दीप-ज्योति शुभ करे, कल्याण करे, आरोग्य करे, सुख-सम्पदा प्रदान करे, मेरी बुद्धि को प्रकाशित करे, दीप-ज्योति-स्वरूपा आप भगवती को नमस्कार। शुभ कल्याण एवं आरोग्य हो तथा पुष्टि की वृद्धि हो। आत्म-तत्त्व को प्रबुद्ध करने वाली दीप-ज्योति, आपको नमस्कार। हे देवेश्वरि! मेरे द्वारा अर्पित दीप-पँक्ति को आप स्वीकार करें तथा इस दीप-दान से आप मुझे ज्ञान-दृष्टि प्रदान करें।
Mantra Translation - May the light of the Deepak bring good luck, welfare, health, happiness and prosperity, enlighten my intellect, salutations to you Bhagwati who is the form of the light of the lamp. May there be good luck, health and strength and may there be an increase in strength. Salutations to you, the light of the Diya that enlightens the soul. O Goddess! Please accept the line of lamps offered by me and by donating this Deepa, please give me the vision of knowledge.
After worshipping Deepamalaika in the above manner, salute Deepamalaika and take water from Pancha Patra in right hand and sprinkle it on the ground while rotating it around Deepamalaika.
After that offer rice flakes, lye, sugarcane, coconut, fruits and sweets etc. Sprinkle rice flakes in front of the Kalasha, new idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, safe, ledgers and lamp-garland.
