2619 Gajanana Sankashti Chaturthi

According to the Amanta Hindu calendar, Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Ashadha month (Purnimanta Shravana month) is celebrated as day of Gajanana Sankashti. On the auspicious occasion of Gajanana Sankashti, Lord Ganesha is worshipped in the form of Gajanana. Lord Gajanana is one of the Ashta Vinayaka forms of Lord Ganesha mentioned in religious texts. Gaja means elephant and Anana means face, hence Gajajana means 'One with the face of an Elephant'. Worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day fulfils all wishes and a person can also subjugate great rulers and officials.

According to the story of the appearance of Lord Gajanan described in Mudgalpurana, in ancient times, there was chaos on earth due to the vicious deeds of a demon named Lobhasura. To get relief from demon Lobhasura, the gods worshipped Him with full devotion. Thereafter, Lord Ganesha appeared in the form of Gajanana. Lord Gajanana defeated Lobhasura and freed the earth from his tyranny.
