According to the Amanta Hindu calendar, Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Bhadrapada month (Purnimanta Ashwina month) is celebrated as day of Vighnaraja Sankashti. On this occasion, Lord Vighnaraja is worshipped and fast is observed. Lord Vighnaraja is the seventh form in Ashta Vinayaka forms of Lord Ganesha. Worshipping this form of Ganesha removes all kinds of obstacles and brings success in work.

In Dwapara Yuga, Lord Krishna had observed this great fast on the advice of Lomasha Rishi to get His kidnapped grandson Aniruddha. As a result of the fast, He killed Banasura and freed Aniruddha.
