According to the Amanta Hindu calendar, Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Chaitra month (Purnimanta Vaishakha month) is celebrated as day of Vikata Sankashti. Lord Vikata is one of the Ashta Vinayaka forms of Lord Ganesha. Lord Vikata is worshipped to get freedom from all kinds of known and unknown fears, diseases, grief and troubles. Lord Vikata gives invincibility and fearlessness to His devotees and protects them in the most severe crises. This worship and fast of Lord Vikata not only makes a person fearless but also gives him the courage to fight adverse circumstances.
According to Mudgala Purana, Lord Ganesha had incarnated in the Vikata form to suppress the demon named Kamasura. Lord Vikata's form is very huge. He rides on a Mayura i.e. peacock holding various weapons. He is also called Mayuresha because He is riding on a peacock. Here the peacock is considered a symbol of Maya. Kamasura was defeated with just one blow of Lord Vikata's mace. To save his life, he decided to take refuge in Lord Vikata due to which all the worlds got freedom from his terror.
