Devi Bhuvaneshwari Jayanti Katha

According to the description found in Devi Bhagwat, once upon a time a demon named Durgam troubled all the gods and goddesses with his atrocities. Disturbed by the iniquities of the inaccessible demon, the Gods and Brahmins worshiped Goddess Bhuvaneshwari on the Himalayan Mountains. Pleased with the worship of the gods and Brahmins, the goddess Herself appeared there carrying arrows, lotus flowers, vegetables, roots etc. Mother Goddess manifested thousands of streams of water from Her eyes, due to which all the creatures of the Earth were satisfied. Due to the tears flowing from the eyes of Mother Goddess, all the rivers and seas were filled with immense water and all the trees, plants, herbs and medicines were irrigated. Goddess Bhuvaneshwari fought with Durgamasura and by defeating him, the severe crisis that befell the deities was resolved. Due to killing of Durgamasura, Goddess Bhuvaneshwari became famous by the name of Goddess Durga.
