Choghadiya | Choghadiya Muhurat | Choghadiya Table
DefinitionChoghadiya Muhurat is more popular in North India and used as ready reckoner to find a good Muhurat without consulting a learned scholar in astrology. In South India a similar concept of Gowri Panchangam exists which is very much similar to Choghadiya Muhurat.
- To calculate Choghadiya Muhurat daytime and nighttime are divided into eight equal parts and each time division is known as Choghadiya. As each division approximately equals to four Ghati, this division of time is known as Choghadiya or Chaturshtika Muhurat.
- Any Choghadiya division could be good or bad depending on the weekday and time of the day. The first Choghadiya of the day decided based on the ruling deity of the day. Thus on Sunday the first Choghadiya Muhurat would be ruled by the Sun followed by Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and Sun. The prevailing Lord during the Choghadiya division makes it bad or good.
- While selecting Choghadiya Muhurat adverse time of Vaar Vela, Kaal Vela and Kaal Ratri should be rejected as these might overlap with auspicious Muhurat timings. It is believed that all auspicious activities performed during Vaar Vela, Kaal Vela and Kaal Ratri are not fruitful.
