In religious texts, Goddess Kamala has been described in a similar form to Goddess Lakshmi. She is also popular by the name of Tantrik Lakshmi. Goddess Kamala bestows wealth, prosperity, fertility, yield and good fortune to Her devotees. The one who worships Goddess Kamala has no shortage of money and grains. Like Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Kamala is very fond of lotus flowers. By worshipping Goddess Kamala, one attains stable Lakshmi. Shri Kamla Mahavidya Sadhana is also considered fruitful for protecting the womb and having a child.
Goddess Kamala is the Vaishnavi Shakti of Lord Vishnu and is the Leela companion of Lord Vishnu. Both Aagam and Nigam describe the glory of the Mother. Goddess Kamala is also known as Goddess Bhargavi. According to Swatantra Tantra, Goddess Kamala had incarnated to kill the demon named Kolasura. According to the description found in Varahi Tantra, Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, all three worship Goddess Kamala. Hence, one name of the goddess is Tripura. But according to the description found in Kalika Purana, Goddess Kamala has been called Tripura due to the power of the Tripura form of Lord Shiva.
In Purushasukta, Goddess Kamala is described as the wife of Lord Vishnu.
According to Swatantra Tantra, in ancient times, Lord Brahma performed rigorous penance for the purpose of creating the universe. Pleased with the penance of Lord Brahma, Parameshwari Tarini, also known as Tara, herself appeared on the day of Chaitra Shukla Navami. She has also appeared in the past during the churning of the ocean. She is Rama, who sits on the lotus throne and who resides in the heart of Vishnu. Her Mahamatangi form appeared on Krishna Ashtami Tithi of Bhadrapada month, who is famous as the goddess who killed Kolasura. Mahalakshmi, the bestower of all good fortune, appeared on Tuesday or Friday in the month of Phalguna.
