Vishwakarma Puja calculations are done according to Bisuddhasidhanta. Vishwakarma Puja falls on the last day of the Bengali month Bhadra which is also known as Bhadra Sankranti or Kanya Sankranti. On this auspicious occasion, Lord Vishwakarma is worshipped.
In Hinduism, Lord Vishwakarma is revered as the creator of mechanical sciences, architecture and Vastu Shastra. Craftsmen of every field and profession worship Lord Vishwakarma as their patron deity. For this reason, on Vishwakarma Puja, most artisans, craftsmen, and traders also worship their tools, machinery, and instruments.
In the Rigveda, Lord Vishwakarma is described as the architect of the universe and the embodiment of creativity. To assist Lord Brahma in the act of creation, He designed the blueprint of the world. According to various scriptures, He built Dwarka city for Lord Krishna, the palace of Indraprastha for the Pandavas, Sudamapuri for Sudama Ji, the golden Lanka and even the Swargaloka for the Gods. In addition, He crafted many divine weapons and instruments, including Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu, Trishula of Lord Shiva and spear of Lord Kartikeya.
In many parts of India, Vishwakarma Puja is observed as a restricted holiday rather than a full national holiday, whereas in Nepal it is recognized as a public holiday with complete government closure.
Vishwakarma Puja festival is also celebrated as Vishwakarma Jayanti.
