1962 Ekadashi Shraddha

Ekadashi Shraddha is done for those deceased family members who died on Ekadashi Tithi, including both Shukla and Krishna Paksha Ekadashi.

Ekadashi Shraddha is also known as Gyaras Shraddha.

Pitru Paksha Shraddhas are Parvan Shraddhas (पार्वण श्राद्ध) and auspicious time to perform them is either Kutup Muhurat and Rohina etc. Muhurat after that till Aparahna Kala gets over. Tarpan (तर्पण) is done at the end of the Shraddha.

The Ekadashi Shraddha is performed on the Ekadashi Tithi of Pitru Paksha. This is a special Tithi-based Shraddha ritual, mentioned in the scriptures under Mahalaya Shraddha. According to Hindu scriptures, Shraddha should be performed on the same Tithi, i.e., lunar date on which the ancestor passed away. If an ancestor died on the Ekadashi Tithi of either Shukla or Krishna Paksha, then proper Shraddha, Tarpan and Pinda Daan should be performed for them on the Ekadashi of Pitru Paksha.

Texts like the Garuda Purana and other Hindu scriptures clearly state that a Shraddha performed on the specific Tithi directly reaches the intended ancestor and fulfills its purpose. A Shraddha performed on the wrong Tithi does not reach the Pitar.

Ekadashi Shraddha is especially associated with ancestors who lived a life of righteousness, self-restraint and renunciation. Performing Shraddha on this day for saintly or ascetic ancestors is considered particularly meritorious. This observance brings peace to the souls of the ancestors and opens the path to happiness, prosperity and spiritual growth in the lives of their descendants.

If the exact date of an ancestor's death is unknown, the scriptures recommend performing collective Shraddha on Sarva Pitru Amavasya. However, for ancestors who passed away specifically on Ekadashi Tithi, performing Shraddha on Ekadashi itself is considered scripturally appropriate. A properly conducted Ekadashi Shraddha with devotion grants liberation from Pitru Rina and contributes to overall progress and upliftment.
