2026 Dwadashi Fasting Days

The Dwadashi Tithi is regarded as one of the most sacred and auspicious Tithi in the Hindu Panchang. It falls on the twelfth day of Shukla Paksha every month. According to the scriptures, the Dwadashi Tithi is especially dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is described as a highly meritorious day for performing virtuous deeds such as fasting, charity and devotional worship. Observing a Dwadashi Vrat not only absorbs one of sins but is also believed to pave the way for liberation, i.e., Moksha.

According to the various scriptures, the Dwadashi Tithi is the most favorable day for the worship of Lord Vishnu. The Manusmriti, Padma Purana, Skanda Purana and Vishnu Dharmottara Purana extensively describe the significance of the Dwadashi Vrat. Acts such as bathing, charity, chanting of Mantras, Havan, and fasting performed on Dwadashi bestow inexhaustible merit upon the devotee.

According to Puranic traditions, Lord Vishnu incarnated in various forms for the welfare of His devotees on different Dwadashi days. For instance, Kurma Dwadashi is associated with His Kurma incarnation, Matsya Dwadashi with His Matsya incarnation and Parashurama Dwadashi with His Parashurama incarnation. Each Dwadashi is linked to a specific incarnation, story or festival of Lord Vishnu.

Dwadashi Vrat

On this day, devotees wake up early, take a holy bath and worship Lord Vishnu with devotion. They offer Tulsi leaves, Panchamrita, flowers, Naivedya and recite various Mantras in His honor. Charity holds special importance on Dwadashi. Padma Purana states that performing acts of charity such as donating cows, food or clothes according to one's capacity on this day leads the devotee to Vishnu Loka, the divine abode of Lord Vishnu. Similarly, the Vishnu Dharmottara Purana mentions that fasting and worshipping Lord Vishnu on Dwadashi liberate one from the cycle of birth and death.

From a spiritual perspective, observing Dwadashi Vrat purifies both the mind and body. It symbolizes self-restraint, faith and devotion. Through the grace of Lord Vishnu, one experiences balance, stability and inner peace in life on this sacred day.

Dwadashi is not merely a date but a profound spiritual tradition that teaches followers of the Vedic faith the harmonious integration of Karma (action), Bhakti (devotion) and Jnana (knowledge). This Vrat inspires harmony, gratitude and unwavering faith in God. Hence, the Dwadashi Tithi is counted among the most auspicious and meritorious days in the Hindu Panchang.
