



Goddess Gayatri is one of the main deities worshipped in Hinduism. Goddess Gayatri is also known as Veda Mata. Goddess Gayatri is considered to be a form of Goddess Saraswati and She is the consort of Lord Brahma

Gayatri Jayanti is observed as the birth anniversary of Goddess Gayatri, the Goddess of Veda. In the scriptures, Goddess Gayatri is also described as the Mother of the Gods and Goddesses. In modern India, the day of Gayatri Jayanti on Shravana Purnima is also celebrated as Sanskrit Diwas.

Gayatri Jayanti is celebrated on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha during the Jyeshtha lunar month. Due to differences in opinions, Gayatri Jayanti is also celebrated on Shravana Purnima. Goddess Gayatri is also considered to be the incarnation of Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Parvati and Goddess Lakshmi.

Gayatri Japam day is linked with Upakarma day and it is observed on the next of Shravani Upakarma day. On this occasion, young students studying Vedas, start learning Vedas only after performing the Upakarma ritual.

Gayatri Mantra is considered very important in Hinduism. Chanting of Gayatri Mantra is also necessary for doing Sandhya. In the scriptures, Gayatri Mantra has been described as the brilliance of Brahma. Gayatri initiation is also given in Upanayan Sanskar.

Bhurbhuvah Svah Om Yuta Janani। Gayatri Nita Kalimala Dahani॥ Akshara Chauvisa Parama Punita। Inamein Basein Shastra Shruti Gita॥ This is a very melodious prayer dedicated to Goddess Gayatri which is known as Gayatri Chalisa. A prayer consisting of forty quatrains is called Chalisa.
