Bhauma Mangalavara Vrat

Mangalavara Vrat

Mangalavara Vrat is dedicated to Lord Hanumana and Mangala Deva. By observing this Vrat, all troubles are resolved through the grace of Sankata Mochana Hanuman Ji. The Mangalavara Vrat is also known as Bhaumavara Vrat. Observing this Vrat helps in reducing Mangala-related Doshas in the Kundali and brings positive results.

Mangala Dev

In the scriptures, various types of Mangalavara Vrat are described. According to Viramitrodaya, the Bhaumavara Vrat is observed for six Tuesdays; according to Bhavishya Purana, it is observed for one year; and according to Padma Purana, it is observed for 21 Tuesdays. The procedures and narrations of all these Vrats vary in different ways.

Bhauma Mnagalavara Vrat Fasting Food

In the Viramitrodaya Bhaumavara Vrat, which is observed for six Tuesdays, one should follow Nakta Vrat, that is, eat only once at night. In other Mangalavara Vrat, Ekabhukta is followed, meaning one should consume fruits only once at any time during the day.

Bhauma Mangalavara Vrat Sankshipta Vidhi

First, during Arunodaya Kala, i.e., pre-dawn, brush the teeth with an Apamarga twig and bathe either in a river or at home using a paste of sesame seeds and Amla. Then wear clean, washed red clothes. Also wear red upper cloth (Patka). Thereafter, in a copper vessel, offer red sandalwood, Akshata, i.e., unbroken rice, flowers, etc., and present 108 Arghya while reciting the Agnimurdha Mantra.

After that, return home and purify the ground with cow dung, and along with wife, children, etc., perform the Puja of Lord Mangala. After mentioning the month, Paksha, Tithi, etc., take the Sankalpa - "For the removal of debts and diseases, and for the attainment of children, grandchildren, and wealth, I will observe the Mangalavara Vrat and, as a part of it, perform the worship of Mangala Deva."

After taking the Sankalpa, perform the Shodashopachara Puja of Lord Mangala's Yantra. After completing Puja, recite or listen to the Bhaumavara Vrat Katha.

Mangala, Bhumiputra, Rinaharta, Dhanaprada, Sthirasana, Mahakarya, Sarva Karmavarodhaka, Lohita, Lohitaksha, Samaganam Kripakara, Dharatmaja, Kuja, Bhauma, Bhutida, Bhumi Nandana, Angaraka, Yama, Sarva Rogapaharaka, Vrishtikarta, Vrishti, Apaharta/Sarva Kamaphalaprada, these are the 21 names of Lord Mangala. Chanting these in the evening during the Vrat gives auspicious results.

Bhauma Mangalavara Vrat Udyapana

Mangalavara Vrat is observed for 6 Tuesdays, 21 Tuesdays, or for 1 year, depending on the type. After completion, the Udyapana should be performed according to proper procedure. The method of Udyapana also varies based on the type of Vrat. The Udyapana method described in Shri Padma Purana is as follows -

Construct a Mandapa eight hands in length. Over it, prepare a Sthandila, i.e. altar of one hand in length. On it, create the Bhauma Mandala of Mangala using rice. Place four Diyas in the four directions of the Mandala, and in front of them place 21 Ghata, i.e., pots. On one Kalasha, establish a golden idol and cover it with a red cloth. Worship it with sacred flowers, Diya, incense, etc. Offer oblations using the Agnimurdha Mantra. Khair wood should be used for the sacrificial sticks. After offering 108 Ahuti, i.e., oblations, offer oblations to Dikpalas. Perform Anga Puja of Mangala Deva and offer fragrance, etc.

Feed Brahmins and give them clothes, Dakshina, and Kalashas. Thereafter, worship the Acharya and donate a cow with a calf along with the entire worship setup. Seek their blessings, upon which they will say - "Your Vrat has been completed flawlessly." Feed the poor, the needy, and the visually impaired. Finally, remain silent and partake of the meal yourself. Thus, the Udyapana of the Mangala Vrat described in Shri Padma Purana is completed.
