Kalki Jayanti is the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu's Kalki Avatara. According to the Hindu Panchang, Lord Kalki will manifest on the Shukla Paksha Shashthi of the Shravana month. Kalki Avatara is the future incarnation of Lord Vishnu and will appear at the end of Kali Yuga. It will be the tenth and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
According to the Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana, Agni Purana, Vayu Purana, Bhavishya Purana, Kalki Purana, and various other Hindu scriptures, at the end of the present Kali Yuga, a Brahmin named Vishnuyasha will reside in a village called Shambhala. Lord Kalki will incarnate as his son. He will destroy the unrighteous from the Earth and protect the followers of Dharma and the righteous.
Apart from Hindu scriptures, the advent of Lord Kalki is also mentioned in the scriptures of Buddhism and Sikhism. The Shri Dasam Granth, composed by Guru Gobind Singh, also affirms the advent of the Kalki Avatara.
On the occasion of Kalki Jayanti, special Puja is performed in the temples of Lord Vishnu. On this day, devotees of Lord Vishnu observe a one-day fast and break it on the following day after offering Dana and Dakshina to a Brahmin. Reciting the Kalki Purana and Shri Vishnu Sahasranama on this day is considered highly auspicious.
A grand temple named Shri Kalki Dham Mandir is currently under construction at Shambhala, where Lord Vishnu is believed to incarnate as Kalki in the future. The temple will be 108 feet high and spread across five acres. It is being constructed using the same red sandstone that was used in the construction of the Somnath Temple and the Shri Ramalala Temple in Ayodhya.
Near Kalki Dham is a sacred place known as Kalki Peeth, where a statue of a white horse has been installed. Three of the horse's legs rest on the ground, while the fourth remains raised in the air. According to traditional belief, the raised leg is gradually descending, and when it finally touches the ground, Lord Kalki will have already incarnated on Bhuloka.
On Kalki Jayanti, grand Puja, Homa, Dana, and other religious activities are organized at Kalki Peeth. Chhappan Bhoga is offered to the Deity, and a Bhandara, i.e., community feast is also organized in the temple.
