According to Hindu calendar, the birth anniversary of Mata Tripura Bhairavi is celebrated on Margashirsha Shukla Purnima. Bhairavi is the fifth goddess among the ten Mahavidya. Goddess Bhairavi is the Shakti of Rudra Bhairavanatha. This Bhairavi form of Goddess is very hideous and dangerous, which is similar to Goddess Kali. Goddess Bhairavi is the consort of Lord Bhairav, the destructive fierce form of Lord Shiva. Goddess Bhairavi is worshipped in various forms, which are known as Rudra Bhairavi, Bhadra Bhairavi, Chaitanya Bhairavi, Nitya Bhairavi, Kaulesh Bhairavi, Shmashana Bhairavi, Sampat Prada Bhairavi, Tripura Bhairavi, Chaitanya Bhairavi, Siddha Bhairavi, Bhuvaneshwar Bhairavi, Sampadaprada Bhairavi, Kaleshwari Bhairavi, Kameshwari Bhairavi, Kamaleshwari Bhairavi, Shatakuti Bhairavi and Nitya Bhairavi.
In Durga Saptashati, Bhairavi has been described as Chandi, the destroyer of demons. By the grace of Mother Bhairavi, a person becomes free from demonic powers and physical weaknesses. It is also suggested to worship Goddess Bhairavi for getting a suitable groom, love marriage and early marriage.
According to Narada Pancharatra, once upon a time, the thought of attaining Gaur Varna again arose in the mind of Mahakali. Due to which the goddess disappears. When Lord Shiva does not find Kali in front of Him, He becomes distraught and asks Devarishi Narada about the goddess. Narada Ji tells Lord Shiva that the manifestation place of the goddess is in the north of Sumeru mountain. As per the orders of Mahadeva, Devarshi Narada sets out to find the Goddess. Narada reaches the north of Sumeru and proposes marriage to Mahadeva to the goddess. The goddess gets angry at this proposal and manifests Bhairavi Vigraha from Her body.
Hence, Tripura-Bhairavi appeared from the shadow idol of Mahakali. According to Rudrayamal Tantra Shastra, all the ten Mahavidya are the Shakti of Shiva and according to Devi Bhagwat, the fifth Mahavidya Tripura-Bhairavi is the fierce form of Mahakali. There are many types which are as follows, Tripura Bhairavi, Chaitanya, Siddha, Bhuvaneshwar, Sampadaprad, Kamleshwari, Kauleshwar, Kameshwari, Nitya, Rudra, Bhadra and Shatkuta etc. Tripura Bhairavi is the goddess of Urdhva Anvaya.
