Tara Jayanti 2025

According to Hindu calendar, Mahatara Jayanti is celebrated on Chaitra Shukla Navami Tithi. As per the description found in Swatantra Tantra, Goddess Tara had appeared on the banks of Cholana River or Cholata Sarovar in the western part of Mount Meru. Goddess Tara is the Shakti of Tarakeshwara Rudravatara of Lord Shiva. Sadhana of Goddess Tara Mahavidya was first done by Maharishi Vasistha, due to which he is also called Vasistharadhita. Maharishi Vashishtha had worshipped Goddess Tara through a tantric method called Chinachara, as result of which he attained Siddhi. Goddess Tara is worshiped in the forms of Ekajata, Ugratara, and Neela Saraswati. Devi Ugratara Shaktipeetha is situated in Mahishi village of Saharsa district of Bihar, where Goddess Tara is seated along with Goddess Ekjata and Neel Saraswati. Sage Vasistha had attained Siddhis by doing Tara Mahavidya Sadhana here.

The worship of Mother Tara is considered to be related to Kalikula. According to beliefs, the Goddess wore blue color form to kill Hayagriva. The blue color form of Goddess Kali became world famous as Goddess Tara.

Shaktipeetha of Tara Devi is situated on the banks of Dwarka River in the Virabhoomi of West Bengal, which is famous by the name of Tara Peetha. According to religious legends, the eyes of Goddess Sati had fallen at this place, hence She is also known as Nayantara. The literal meaning of Tara is the one who liberates from material world; hence Goddess Tara is worshiped as the goddess who provides salvation. By worshiping Goddess Tara, all the enemies of the seeker are destroyed and speech accomplishment is also achieved. According to the description found in religious texts, in ancient times, the worship of Tara Mahavidya was prevalent in areas like China, Tibet and Ladakh.

Devi Tara Jayanti Katha

Many stories are prevalent regarding the appearance of Goddess Tara. One of which is the following story.

Meroh Pashchimakule Nu Chotratakhyo Hrido Mahan।
Tatra Jajne Svayam Tara Devi Nilasaraswati॥
Chaitre Masi Navamyam Tu Shuklapakshe Tu Bhushate।
Krodharatrirmaheshani Tararupa Bhavishyati॥

According to the description found in religious texts, Goddess Tara appeared on the banks of the Cholana River in the western part of Mount Meru. There was an elusive demon named Hayagriva, to kill that demon, Goddess Mahakali had donned the blue color. According to Mahakal Samhita, Goddess Tara appeared on Chaitra Shukla Ashtami Tithi. That is why this date is called Tara-Ashtami. The night of Chaitra Shukla Navami is called Tara-Ratri.

First of all, in Ratnadvipa of Heaven, after hearing the Vedic legendary facts and sentences from the mouth of Goddess Kali, Lord Shiva became very pleased with His wife. Lord Shiva said to Mother Parvati, "In ancient times, after destroying the fierce Ravana, your form became famous by the name Tara."

At that time, all the gods had praised you and you were holding a sword, Nara Munda (male head), dagger and Abhaya Mudra posture in your hands, your tongue was hanging out of your mouth, due to which you appeared to be of a horrible form. At that time, the form of the Goddess was very formidable, and all the gods were frightened after seeing the fierce form of the Goddess. The Goddess was naked in a very horrifying and gruesome form and when She became aware of this, She started trying to cover up Her modesty with a sword. When the Goddess was in this state, Lord Brahma himself gave Her his tiger skin. After that, the Goddess became famous all over the world by the name of Lambodari.

According to Tara-Rahasya Tantra, Lord Rama was only a medium, it was Goddess Tara, the destructive power of Lord Rama, who ended Dashanan Ravana.
