Kaumari Matrika Origin

According to the Vamana Purana, Sapta Matrika originated from one another as embodiments of divine power. According to an account found in Vamana Purana, Sapta Matrika manifested to assist Goddess Ambika in Her quest to annihilate the demon Raktabeeja. When Raktabeeja, along with his demon army, arrived on the battlefield to wage war against the Goddess Ambika, at that precise time, Ambika let out a resounding war cry, which caused the emergence of Goddess Brahmani from Her divine mouth. From the eyebrows of Brahmani emerged Goddess Maheshvari and from the lion of Maheshvari manifested Kaumari Matrika while carrying a spear in Her hand and seated on a Mayura, i.e., peacock.

Kaumari Matrika Iconography

In Vishnudharmottara Purana, Goddess Kaumari is described as possessing six faces and twelve arms. All Her six faces have three eyes. The form and appearance of Goddess Kaumari are related to Lord Kartikeya, in fact closely resemble Him. Goddess Kaumari is shown mounted upon a peacock.
