Rishi Durvasa says - "O great sage! I am describing the merit that a king obtained by observing the Narasimha Dwadashi Vrat; listen to it attentively. In the region of Kimpurusha Varsha, there ruled a renowned king named Bharata. King Bharata was blessed with a son, whose name was Vatsa. When the time came, Bharata entrusted the responsibility of the kingdom to his son Vatsa and established him as King Vatsa.
In the course of time, in a fierce battle, King Vatsa was defeated by his enemies, and his kingdom, wealth, riches, and everything he possessed came under the control of his enemies. Defeated by them, the king, along with his wife, set out on foot toward the forest and, upon reaching there, began to reside in the Ashrama of Rishi Vashistha. In this way, while living in the Ashrama, a few days passed for the king.
One day, Rishi Vashistha asked the king - 'O King! What is your purpose in abandoning your kingdom and residing in this Ashrama? For what reason are you living in this great Ashrama?'
The king said - 'O revered sage! Wicked enemies have defeated me in battle and have taken away my kingdom, treasury, and everything I possessed. Therefore, helpless, I have come to seek refuge in you. Kindly grant peace to my mind through your blessings.'"
Rishi Durvasa says - "O sage! When King Vatsa made this humble request, Rishi Vashistha instructed him to properly observe the Narasimha Dwadashi Vrat. Following the instructions of Rishi Vashistha, the king observed the Dwadashi Vrat, as a result of which Lord Narasimha became greatly pleased with him. As a boon, Lord Narasimha granted the king a divine Chakra, i.e., a discus, that was capable of destroying all enemies on the battlefield.
With the help of that divine Chakra, King Vatsa defeated all his enemies and regained his kingdom. Seated once again upon the royal throne, that righteous king performed one thousand Ashvamedha Yajna. By the merit of his virtuous deeds, at the end of his life, the king attained the supreme abode of Lord Vishnu.
O sage! This Narasimha Dwadashi is blessed, as it destroys all sins. To satisfy your curiosity, I have described it. After listening to the Mahatmya of this Vrat, you may act according to your wish."
॥Thus concludes Narasimha Dwadashi Mahatmya described in Shri Varaha Purana॥
