Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat

Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat

In Hinduism, Tuesday is considered to be dedicated to Lord Hanumana. According to Navagraha, this day is governed by Mangal Deva. On Tuesdays, Vrat and Puja are performed to please Lord Hanumana. Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat is a highly powerful Vrat dedicated to Lord Hanumana, which is observed especially for attaining devotion, strength, and inner power, and for the removal of difficulties. Hanumana Ji is one of the Sapta Chiranjeevi, who remain immortal in all Yugas. Mata Sita blessed Him with the boon of remaining ever youthful and immortal in all ages. Therefore, Hanumana Ji is also considered the awakened deity of Kaliyuga.

As a result of observing the Mangalavara Vrat, by the grace of Hanumana Ji, all kinds of obstacles, diseases, fear of enemies, Graha Dosha, and mental stress are removed. Hanumana Ji bestows strength, intellect, knowledge, energy, courage, and valor upon His devotees. According to Vedic astrology, if Mangal Dosha is present in one's Kundali, then Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat helps in balancing it. By observing this Vrat with complete devotion, one attains physical and mental strength, freedom from diseases, destruction of enemy-related obstacles, pacification of Graha Doshas, spiritual strength, and growth in devotion.

Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat Fasting Food

Diet holds special importance in Hanumana Vrat, as this Vrat is considered a symbol of discipline, purity, and Brahmacharya. The benefits of the Vrat are attained only when dietary rules are followed along with fasting. Non-vegetarian food, alcohol, garlic, onion, stale food, and excessively spicy food, etc., are considered Tamasic and are strictly prohibited during the Vrat.

In this Vrat, Phalahara such as fruits, milk, water, coconut water, Sabudana, Makhana, peanuts, etc., is consumed. According to various traditions, in Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat, one-time Sattvic meal is taken. In some regions, sweet Pua and Bundi are offered to Hanumana Ji, and the same is consumed as Prasada in the evening. Observance of Brahmacharya is considered essential during Mangalavara Vrat.

Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat Sankshipta Vidhi

For the worship of Hanumana Ji, both morning and evening times are considered suitable. Before performing the Puja, take a bath in a sacred river or at home using water mixed with Gangajal. After bathing and performing Tarpana, wear clean red clothes. Thereafter, according to one's devotion, take the Sankalpa to observe 21, 31, or 51 Tuesday Vrats - "I will observe the Vrat and perform Puja for the removal of sufferings, attainment of long life, fulfillment of all desires, and to please Hanumana Ji."

  • First, if possible, purify the place of worship by coating it with cow dung and draw a circular Mandala on it, and spread a red cloth on a wooden platform.
  • Thereafter, install an idol or Yantra of Shri Hanumana Ji in a copper vessel on the platform.
  • Then, offer red flowers, red cloth, Sindura (Chola), jasmine oil, Tulsi leaves, jaggery, gram, coconut, Laddus, etc., and perform Shodashopachara Hanumat Pujan with Gandha, Dhupa, Deepa, Naivedya, and the 16 offerings.
  • Chant the Mantra Om Ham Hanumate Namah। (ॐ हं हनुमते नमः।) according to one's capacity.
  • Thereafter, recite or listen to the Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat Katha.
  • After the Puja, offer Roti, jaggery, and gram to a cow.

Thus, the brief and simple method of Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat is completed.

Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat Udyapana

According to different traditions, after continuously observing the Vrat for 11, 21, 31, or 51 Tuesdays, the Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat is concluded through proper Udyapana. Special Puja and charity hold great importance in the Udyapana of the Vrat.

First, invite Acharya and Brahmanas with devotion for the Udyapana. Offer Chola to Hanumana Ji by mixing Sindura with jasmine oil and offer Laddus as Bhoga. Thereafter, perform Shodashopachara Puja of Hanumana Ji with the complete prescribed procedure. As per the Acharya's instructions, perform Havana with 108 Ahuti, i.e., oblations using the Mantra Om Ham Hanumate Rudratmakaya Hum Phat। (ॐ हं हनुमते रुद्रात्मकाय हुं फट्।). In Havana, offer oblations using mango wood Samidha and Havan materials consisting of jaggery, gram, Batasha, Ghee, etc. After the Purnahuti, organize a collective recitation of Sundara Kanda and Hanumana Chalisa. Thereafter, feed the Brahmanas. The meal should include jaggery Pua and Bundi Laddus. After the completion of Udyapana, donate all the Vrat materials to the Acharya. Thereafter, respectfully bid farewell to the Acharya and Brahmanas by offering red clothes, copper vessels, sweets, and Dakshina.

In this way, the devotee who completes the Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat with devotion attains long life, peace, mental strength, and the immense grace of Hanumana Ji. Hanumana Mangalavara Vrat is not merely a religious ritual, but a combination of Sankalpa, devotion, and discipline, through which not only worldly problems are resolved, but spiritual upliftment is also attained.
